West Lothian Council has a potential £73million budget gap over the next 5 years and is looking to reduce services it is not legally required to provide.
Unfortunately this includes the L1 town service and the 31 Bathgate to Livingston service.
The Council is currently considering “the removal of subsidies for bus routes that are not commercially available or viable”. This will lead to the closure of these services.
Not a worry if you drive but consider those that use the L1 and the 31 because they don’t drive. How do these people get to work, to the doctor’s surgery, to the library, to the shops, to St John’s hospital? It is vital that these services are maintained!
The Council will discuss bus subsidies at a special committee on 21st December but the real decision which will affect us all will be made at a full Council meeting early in 2018.
